CITRA, Fla. -- Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Citra Tuesday afternoon, where one man was killed.

  • Man shot and kiled in officer-involved shooting
  • Deputies say man 'violently confronted' them
  • FDLE will take over investigation from here, MCSO says

According to Marion County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the Phoenix House Rehabilitation Facility on 15681 North U.S. Highway 301 at 12:53 p.m.

Deputies say they assisted a probation and parole officer with locating a man who violated his court-mandated parole by fleeing from the rehab facility.

According to a news release, the man fled into a wooded area behind the facility. When deputies approaches him, the man allegedly "violently confronted" them. The deputies then shot and killed the man.

“Right now we can’t go into too much detail as far as the details of that confrontation other than to say multiple deputies were pursuing this person, and when he fled into that wooded area he did violently confront them, forcing them to utilize a firearm,” said Paul Bloom, PIO for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities reported that no deputies were injured in the incident.

The deputy who shot the man has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 12 years.

“The deputy is doing fine. The Sheriff came out here and checked in with all the deputies that were involved and spoke to each of them and they are doing good. We provide counseling for our deputies," Bloom said.

The name of the man killed has not yet been released.

Bloom said FDLE will take the investigation over from here, which is standard procedure. They have the body cam footage from the deputies involved, and they will investigate whether the man shot and killed was armed.
