CENTRAL FLORIDA -- We had a quiet start to our Tuesday, which allowed for a little bit of sunshine to peek through.

  • Tropical moisture in place
  • Rain chances will dip -- but only briefly

High pressure stretched over the central Atlantic is keeping us in a southeast flow, and a deep tropical moisture feed pointed right at the peninsula.

Slightly drier air evident in the mid-atmosphere provided breaks in the clouds in a few spots Tuesday, but showers and storms still developed through the afternoon. Overnight activity shifts back toward the coast, with a mostly cloudy sky elsewhere.

We've lowered rain chances to 40 percent Wednesday, but bump it back to 50 percent Thursday. Highs both days will be in the upper 80s.

If you’re making plans for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, we have our eye on a developing area of low pressure in the Caribbean.

Could we have our first named storm of the season in the Gulf of Mexico by the weekend? No matter how this system develops, looks like it’ll provide us more heavy rain and possibly a weekend washout.

Surfers may be able to catch a few waves from time to time through the rest of this week, with an east-southeast trade swell and wave heights two to three feet, occasionally a little higher.

Weather and ocean conditions will combine to provide a moderate rip current threat, so be careful if you're swimming.

Sea surface temps are holding in the upper 70s along our east coast.
