CENTRAL FLORIDA -- Another day, another round of strong afternoon storms.

Broad low pressure we’ve been watching for a while in the Gulf has drifted into the southeastern U.S., but a plume of tropical moisture continues feeding our atmosphere.

Another round of locally strong storms fired up Thursday and squeezed out this moisture in torrential downpours. Activity winds down early, but a similar setup is forecast for Frida and into the weekend.

Any morning sun will quickly warm us, with the best chances for storms firing up coming in the early afternoon. Boundary collisions will enhance these storms, allowing some to become strong. Highs stay in the 80s, with lows in the 70s.

Models are hinting at a possible disturbance near the Yucatan Peninsula by the middle of next week, but we’re still over a week out from any impacts locally.

A lingering east-southeast swell and wave heights around two to three feet will occasionally create fair conditions in the surf, although generally poor conditions are in the forecast overall.

Swimmers should use caution, but our rip current threat remains low the next few days. Sea surface temperatures are steady in the upper 70s up and down our east coast.
