ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- In this week’s Traffic Inbox, we spoke with Amy Montgomery who lives near the Eagle Creek area in south Orange County.

  • Resident says roadway near school is dangerous
  • Drivers have to deal with multiple lanes of traffic, congestion

Montgomery says that children and parents are constantly at risk when turning into the elementary school.

“I get upset for the safety of my children,” she said. “I feel like I could get hit at any time.”

Amy, the mother of three, currently has one child attending Eagle Creek Elementary School.

To drop her child off at school each morning, Montgomery has to make a left from Narcoossee onto Eagle Creek Sanctuary Boulevard, the road that the school is on.

To do so, multiple lanes of traffic and extreme congestion need to be dealt with.  She feels her children are constantly at risk.

“I always have two kids with me at all times,” she said. “It’s very upsetting. Every day. It’s been almost two school years dealing with it.  Along with a lot of other parents.”

Montgomery says that, in her opinion, only a traffic light will do.

“There’s a light at the middle school on this road,” she said.  “There is a light at the high school on this road.  But there is no light at this school.”

We talked with Orange County government officials, and they said that although they are responsible for that stretch of Narcoossee Road because Eagle Creek Sanctuary Boulevard is a private road, it’s up to the Homeowners Association of Eagle Creek to conduct a traffic signal warrant study and pay for the design and construction of the traffic signal if warranted.

We were also able to reach out to the Homeowners Association and they are now aware of the situation, putting the ball in their court.

Montgomery says change can’t come soon enough.

“I think eventually, kids are going to be injured,” she said. And I don’t ever want to risk the safety of a child.”
