  • Driver slammed into vehicles, security said
  • James Morris charged with DUI, leaving scene of crash

James Edward Morris bonded out on charges of DUI and leaving the scene of a crash Sunday morning.

He bonded out that afternoon, walking out of Orange County Jail after saying, "No comment."

Morris is accused of leaving behind a trail of destruction inside the parking garage of The Marquee apartment complex across Alafaya Trail from campus.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Morris crashed into more than a dozen vehicles, hitting some so hard they were knocked out of their parking spots and into the cars next to them. Some vehicles even lost their bumpers.

He also almost hit a security guard inside the garage before crashing into several other parked vehicles. troopers said.

FHP said he wrecked at least 18 vehicles.

One student who lives at the apartment complex said his vehicle is totaled.

"I thought it was just a little ding when they said it was an accident, but coming out here and seeing the damage, it sucks," Kurt Thompson said.

One witness said Morris tried to leave but couldn't make it out. They said he tried to make it down to the first floor but ended up crashing head first into two vehicles.

Another witness said Morris slammed into their friend's parked car.

"Her bumper fell off and her car was pushed into two other cars," Corey Jones said. "I feel like that's really irresponsible. They hit 18 cars."

A trooper found Morris lying on the concrete floor asleep at The Marquee. According to his arrest report, Morris could barely stand and smelled like alcohol. FHP said he refused to take a Breathalyzer test.
