ORLANDO, Fla. — Sentencing for Sanel Saint Simon entered its third day on Wednesday, as well as its final day of testimony.

Now, Saint Simon will wait to hear if the jury will decide life imprisonment or if he will receive the death penalty.

Saint Simon is convicted of killing his longtime girlfriend's 16-year-old daughter, Alexandria Chery, in 2014.

The defense is trying to show that Saint Simon lived an abusive, impoverished childhood. But on Wednesday, the state worked to shatter that appearance by calling his ex-wife to the stand.

“Did you want to have sex with Sanel Saint Simon 28 days after your daughter was born?” questioned the state.

“No, he forced me,” said Helene Achat, St. Simon’s ex-wife.

The testimony bothered the defense since they are making the case that prior to the murder of Chery, St. Simon had no criminal history. They even asked for a mistrial based on Achat's allegations, but Judge Marshall Kest denied the request.

The state also called an Orange County homicide detective to the stand to rebut testimony given Tuesday by Saint Simon’s cousin, who said Saint Simon was beaten as a child. The detective denied that his cousin mentioned the alleged beatings when she was initially interviewed.

Ultimately, Saint Simon did not take the stand Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the jury heard more video recordings of family and acquaintances of Saint Simon who are in Haiti.

Saint Simon's cousin was asked if Saint Simon was ever beaten by his grandfather.

"Yes when Sanel would not work, when grandmother not around, he would beat on Sanel," revealed Myriam Saint Simon

The sentencing phase of his trial, before Kest the Orange County Courthouse, began Monday, when family and friends of Chery spoke about the teen's life.

"By the grace of God, I had a sister who embodied love, joy and youthfulness," Fanzo Chery said.

The jury will come back at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Closing arguments are expected to take most of the morning, and then they will begin deliberations.

The jury must decide whether to recommend life in prison without parole or the death penalty.

If the jury doesn’t reach a decision Thursday, they will be sequestered overnight.
