  • FHP: Dump truck was parked partly in right turn lane

Troopers have identified the mother and daughter as Krystal Rios, 31, and Kayla Monagas, 8, of Orlando.

Just before 4 a.m., the 2009 Honda Civic was traveling northbound on John Young Parkway, near Sand Lake Road, while a dump truck was parked partly in the right turn lane and right shoulder, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

That's when the Civic went into the right turn lane and rear-ended the asphalt-loaded dump truck.

Rios was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and her daughter to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, where they both died, troopers said.

It was originally reported that the girl was a teenager, but the FHP issued a correction.

John Young Parkway was closed for a few hours, but it reopened just after 7 a.m.
