The Orlando Police Department is investigating a homicide after a man was found unconscious Sunday morning in downtown Orlando.

  • Man found unconscious in parking lot
  • Transported to hospital and pronounced dead
  • Parking lot littered with bullet casings

The unidentified man was found shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Terry Avenue near an apartment complex. He was found with signs of trauma on his body, police said.

The man, believed to be between 25 and 35 years old was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to investigators, the area where the man was found was littered with bullet casings.

For many residents who live at the apartment complex, the scene was nerve-wracking.

"I'm terrified," said Demetrice Anthony, who recently moved into the complex. "It's just, it's the safety for me and my kids. I have teenagers, that could've been my son."

Ruth Sanchez woke up to crime scene tape roping off the building where she lives.

"I'm kind of nervous right now because I don't know what's going on," she said. "When it comes to this neighborhood, a lot of people want to be able to know, especially [with] something like that. They want to know what's going on."

Investigators spent hours collecting evidence Sunday, even going door-to-door to talk to residents.

Anyone who might have information that could help with the case is asked to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
