GRANT-VALKARIA, Fla. — Bold burglars have struck in a small-town area of south Brevard County over the past 10 days — breaking in during daylight hours.

  • Burglars breaking into homes during the day in Grant-Valkaria
  • One resident's rare shipwrecked Spanish coin taken
  • She's offering $2,500 reward for info leading to recovery

Some of the home thefts involve guns.

"It just breaks my heart. I feel extremely violated," Leslie Hanson, who is in the middle of moving, said Friday.

Much of her belongings — some very near and dear to her — were inside a home on U.S. in Grant-Valkaria, stored in a small safe, tucked in the bedroom closet.

There were "legal documents for myself and my children, precious jewelry given to me from family, my grandmother's pearls," Hanson said.

There was also a one-of-a-kind shipwrecked Spanish coin, similar to this one she wears around her neck.

All of it is now gone, taken by someone, or a group, that broke into the house during the middle of the day April 4.

"Come to find out, there are several in the area," Hanson said.

There have been at least four other home break-ins in the small town. The thefts have investigators on the hunt, searching for suspects.

Hanson has put up a sign offering a $2,500 reward.

"Someone has to have some little information," she said. U.S. 1 in this area of south Brevard is heavily traveled.
