Grief counselors are available Monday at the school attended by the 13-year-old boy who was killed by a SunRail train on Friday evening.

Marcees Kilpatrick was walking his bike across the railroad tracks in Sanford when he was hit by the train and killed.

Kilpatrick attended Markham Woods Middle School in Heathrow.

The school’s principal, Byron Durias, posted on the school’s Facebook page that the team of grief counselors would remain available for as long as necessary.

The teen’s unexpected death comes as the school year comes to an end this week.

“We have implemented a plan for responding to this tragic event to help our students, staff, and families conclude the school year on the best of terms possible, given this difficult time,” Durias wrote on Facebook. “The plan was evolved from the district’s experience with death in the past and advice from mental health professionals within the community."

Durias also says he met with the teen’s family on Saturday, giving them flowers and a card to express condolences on behalf of the school.
