The UCF Knights improbable turn from a winless program two seasons ago to champion is complete.

  • UCF 62, Memphis 55 in 2 OT
  • UCF wins American Athletic Conference championship
  • Report: UCF coach Scott Frost to take head coaching job at Nebraska

UCF outlasted Memphis 62-55 Saturday in double overtime to capture the American Athletic Conference championship.

A program that was 0-12 in 2015 is now 12-0, a conference champion and likely looking at a New Year's Day bowl game. But the Knight appear to be headed to their bowl game without their head coach Scott Frost, who reportedly is heading to Nebraska to become the Cornhusker's next coach.

Knights quarterback McKenzie Milton passed for 494 yards and three touchdowns as UCF rolled up 726 total yards of offense.

But UCF had to hold on as Memphis rallied in the fourth quarter from a 48-34 deficit to tie the score. But a missed a field goal late in regulation cost the Tigers and sent the contest into OT.

The teams traded a touchdown before UCF added a short scoring run to take the lead. A UCF interception on the next Memphis possession ended the contest.
