Some beach-side Brevard school children got up close to some special dogs and learned about safety too.

Satellite Beach's Paws for Veterans visited Brevard Montessori School kindergartners on Wednesday. They brought two of their service dogs to show the kids how to properly interact with and approach them.

"The majority of kids we see and come across, they have an excellent response to the dogs, and we couldn't ask for any better response," said Steve Kappes, a representative from Paws For Veterans.

Paws for Veterans pairs trained service dogs facing dim futures with veterans suffering from illnesses like post-traumatic stress disorder.

"They listen really well. I feel like these dogs have been trained for 20 years," said Anne Wilson of Brevard Montessori School.

This is a milestone for Brevard Montessori School this year, which is celebrating 20 years of education.
