Gov. Rick Scott has declared a state of emergency ahead of white nationalist Richard Spencer’s speech at the University of Florida.

Spencer’s speech is scheduled for Thursday.

The executive order, which was issued for Alachua County, will allow local law enforcement agencies to partner with county and state law enforcement to provide security for the event.

In the executive order, Scott stated that “the threat of potential emergency is imminent.”

The declaration comes after Alachua County Sheriff Sadie Darnell requested the state in preparation for the event.

“We live in a country where everyone has the right to voice their opinion, however, we have zero tolerance for violence and public safety is always our number one priority,” Scott said in a statement Monday.
