As of 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Volusia County Beach Safety reported more than five rescues due to strong rip currents.
Surfers and beach goers may encounter powerful waves and rip currents that could result in injuries.
Folks should pay attention to warning flags on the beach Sunday.
If you don't see those flags, you should ask a lifeguard about the conditions before you enter the water.
They are trained to identify hazards.
Volusia County Beach Safety said swimmers should stay at least 100 feet away from piers and jetties because you can find permanent rip currents.
If swimmers are caught in a rip current they should remain calm, never fight against the current and swim in a direction following the shoreline.
The roughest conditions are going to last until Monday.
If beach goers see someone in trouble, try to get help from a lifeguard and call 911.
