The Carnival Ecstasy is back at Port Canaveral after a power failure at sea delayed its return.

An official with Carnival said the power outage Wednesday night was caused by a mechanical issue.

Carnival said the Ecstasy experienced a brief power failure that lasted approximately 12 minutes beginning at 6 p.m. A spokesperson says all hotel services and propulsion were quickly restored.

The ship arrived just after 7 a.m. Thursday morning, a few hours behind schedule. The Ecstasy was on the last leg of a five-day cruise. It departed on Saturday from Port Canaveral.

Carnival said its next voyage, a four day cruise to the Bahamas, is still expected to depart from the port Thursday afternoon.

The problems with the Ecstasy come after Carnival’s decision to invest more than $300 million into improvements. That includes installing a backup generator that can better power hotel and guest services if power is lost, and upgrading the existing water mist fire suppression systems on board.
