Police said a dangerous man is on the loose in Sanford, and he's not shy about pulling the trigger.

Detectives said they believe Eric Menefee has been involved in several shootings since October, including one Tuesday night on Orion Way, just a few blocks away from Wicklow Elementary School.

Police said Menefee, 24, is a convicted felon and should be considered dangerous.

Officers called to the scene of Tuesday night's shooting after reports of a fight said they saw two men with guns, but Menefee was able to get away.

"The entire area was under a perimeter and searched thoroughly," said Sanford police Capt. James McCauliffe. "He was able to elude us, and I am sure he was able to get through the graveyard and escape."

Police used a stun gun on the second gunman and arrested him, but they said Menefee got into a stolen car and fled the scene. Despite hours of searching, police said they did not find him Tuesday.
