LAKE COUNTY, Fla. -- Tammie Brooks wants to know how fast she's supposed to go on a road she travels every day.

  • SR 33 traverses north-south through rural Lake County
  • Resident says she takes it every day and doesn't see signage
  • She says she doesn't know what the speed limit is

Brooks, of Lake County, wrote to us this week wanting to know why there is an apparent lack of signage and posted speed limit on a stretch of State Road 33 in the Clermont/Groveland area between County Road 561 and County Road 474.

We went out to take a look.

For now, State Road 33 runs through Lake County for about 30 miles and overlaps at certain points with State Road 50 and County Road 48, mostly through rural farm land.

As Lake County continues to grow, State Road 33 is getting busier.

It's a narrow road -- and a fast road.

Brooks questioned whether there was any signage on her way to work. Her route only has her on S.R. 33 for two miles between C.R. 561 and C.R. 474.

We did find a speed limit sign on S.R. 33, but it's significantly farther north of C.R. 561, meaning that there's no signage between C.R. 561 and C.R. 474.

The Florida Department of Transportation maintains S.R. 33. It confirmed that there are no signs in that stretch. It also confirmed that the speed limit is still 60 mph between those roads.

Transportation officials did say that they will now look into installing new signs farther south.

So stay tuned for future updates and we will tell you right here whether a new sign goes in or not. Thanks for your question, Tammie.
