ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff's Office is still at the scene of a deadly home invasion that happened Monday afternoon in the Orlando area.

It happened at a home on the 3900 block of Port Simbor Avenue in unincorporated east Orange County, outside of Winter Park.

Investigators have released few details in the death, though they confirm that a 20-year-old man was killed in the home.

Authorities were called to the home at about 4:42 p.m., where they found a man who had been shot.

He was taken to Florida Hospital East, where he died, Master Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte said.

Family members on Tuesday said the man is Alex Correa. His mother, stepmother and father said four men were apparently trying to break into their house, and Correa tried to fend off the men.

"I just hope if you know, if you did this, or you know who did it, give them up. They’re no good man. They just destroyed our life," Alex Correa's father, William, said.

Said his mother, Stacy Deligne: "They’ll do this to other people because they have no heart. They’re animals. They don’t have a heart. They don’t have a conscience."

Deligne said her other son was also inside the home at the time of the shooting, recovering from spinal surgery, but thanks to Alex’s actions, he stopped the men from attacking anyone else.

Sheriff's investigators said there's no immediate threat to neighbors and don't think it was a random shooting. No one else is thought to have been injured.

A vigil for Alex is being held Tuesday evening on the 3900 block of Port Simbor Avenue, where the home invasion happened.

Detectives haven't officially released the deceased man's name, nor have they announced any suspects, though they say they're working "strong leads" in the case.
