ORLANDO, Fla. – Many Halloween events were canceled this year because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, Florida’s major theme parks have gotten creative. Even though Disney World and Universal Orlando canceled their large-scale events due to social distancing requirements, they, along with the other parks, have found ways to still celebrate the season.

WALT DISNEY WORLD

In June, Walt Disney World canceled its annual, after-hours event Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. In its place, Disney has rolled out festive activities, Halloween-themed food and more at Magic Kingdom.

Now though October 31, visitors of all ages can wear Halloween costumes at Magic Kingdom. While they are dressed for the season, there will be Halloween-themed cavalcades taking place throughout the day with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and others.

There will also be specialty food and drink items at the park as well as themed merchandise.

Main Street, U.S.A. will also be adorned with Mickey pumpkin head wreaths and other fall decorations.

UNIVERSAL ORLANDO

Even though Universal canceled this year’s Halloween Horror Nights, the resort has opened two haunted houses that were originally planned for the event. The houses—Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives and Revenge of the Tooth Fairy—are available to daytime visitors at Universal Studios Florida from October 3 through November 1.  The houses will used Virtual Line, which is available in the official Universal Orlando Resort app.

In addition to houses, Universal will offer trick-or-treating for younger visitors at Islands of Adventure. Children ages 12 and younger will be able to collect treats from participating retail stores with a pumpkin sticker on display.

SEAWORLD ORLANDO

Instead of canceling its Halloween Spooktacular event, SeaWorld modified it with new safety measures. Visitors can enjoy the event, which is included in regular park admission, on Saturdays and Sundays through November 1.

The event features a trick-or-treat trail where kids can safely collect candy. Visitors will also be able to meet Halloween characters—at a distance. SeaWorld has also added a Halloween maze to the event. Social distancing measures and capacity limits will be in place for safety.

LEGOLAND FLORIDA

Legoland is holding its annual Brick or Treat event every weekend October 3-31.

Younger visitors can wear costumes and visit six trick-or-treating areas, which will use a contactless system to distribute candy. There will also be character experiences, with visitors getting a chance to meet Rockin’ Frankenstein, Mummy and Lord Vamprye.

Live performances of The Groovin’ Graveyard and A Candy-Coated Curse shows will take place throughout the day.

The event is included with theme park admission.

BUSCH GARDENS TAMPA BAY

Busch Gardens is holding Howl-O-Scream this year but with a few changes.

Instead of indoor haunted houses, the Halloween event will feature 10 open-air scare zones. The design of the scare zones were modified to allow for social distancing and other safety measures.

Busch Gardens is limiting the capacity for the event, so visitors are encouraged to make reservations as early as possible. Howl-O-Scream runs select nights through November 1.
