Travis Jones, Basketball Expert

Travis Jones began his broadcasting career while still coaching at Edgewater High School.  Alongside Austin Lyon, Jones provided color commentary from the Lakeland Center for the Boys State Championships on both radio and the internet.

A combination of Austin Lyon joining us and Jones’s exit from coaching led to his current duties as an analyst for Spectrum Sports' basketball telecasts.

Jones, who took Edgewater to the Class 6A state final as a 25-year-old rookie head coach and won a state championship with the Eagles at age 31, resigned his boys basketball position at Winter Springs in 2010.

He continues to teach Advanced Placement United States History at Winter Springs.

Jones had a 323-80 coaching record in 13 seasons at the two schools, a .801 winning percentage that is among the best in state history. He was 105-38 in five seasons at Winter Springs, including a 27-4 team in 2007-08 that lost a state semifinal 62-61 to 6A champion Miami Norland.

In his last season, Jones had a senior-laden team that went 25-4, losing a region quarterfinal to state champ Winter Park -- a game that aired on Bright House Sports Network

For most of his career, Jones coached year-round, also serving as a head coach on the national-travel team circuit in the spring and summer for the Florida Rams.  Jones also coached at both the Nike All American Camp in Indianapolis and The Adidas ABCD camps in New Jersey and Georgia.

Jones, who was 24 when he was promoted from JV coach to varsity head coach at Edgewater and is now 42, said nobody seems to believe he is done with basketball.

Being a color commentator for Spectrum Sports has fulfilled a life-long dream for Jones, who insists that it has filled a void left behind and keeps him active in the game.
