No. 12 - VIERA HAWKS

2016: 9-3, 7A District 6 Champions

Head Coach: Kevin Mays, 42-23 in 6 seasons

Key Returners: QB Tim Demorat (2321 yds, 22 TD, 8 INT; 258 rushing yds, 4 TD), LT Max Lawson, LB Brandon Mays (107 tackles, 3 sacks, 2 INT), WR Quinton Richard (441 yds, 4 TD), DE/TE Miguel Rodriguez (91 tackles, 26 sacks)

The Scoop: Two short years ago Viera won their first playoff game in school history, eventually making it to the Class 7A state title game. The program Kevin Mays is building continued it’s success last season as the Hawks advanced to the regional finals last season.

Viera returns 14 starters, seven on offense and seven on defense. An offense that scored 35.3 points per game last season has the potential to be even better this year with almost every skill player returning. Quarterback Tim Demorat, a Fordham commit, enters year two as the starter with weapons all around him. Jaren Lewis tied for second on the team with three rushing touchdowns a year ago. On the outside the receivers are led by Quinton Richard, Travis Jones, and Sean Atkins.

The defense will be solid in the front seven with defensive end Miguel Rodriguez and Army commit Brandon Mays.

Quotable: “You have to adapt, make some things fun, make them know that you care about them. Because I think if they know that you’re going to bust your butt for them, they’ll do it for you.” - Kevin Mays
