The biggest question for UCF football this season is: what's next?

After pulling off one of the best turnarounds in recent history, the Knights are hoping to take another step forward.

But history shows that following up last year's success with a better record isn't likely.

Here are some of the most notable bounce back seasons in college football history:

Team First Season Second Season Win Improvement
Florida ('79-'80) 0-10-1 8-4 +8
Hawaii ('98-'99) 0-12 9-4 +9
South Carolina ('99-'00) 0-11 8-4 +8
Miami Ohio ('09-'10) 1-11 10-4 +9
Auburn ('12-'13) 3-9 12-2 +9
UCF ('15-'16) 0-12 6-7 +6

But what happened to those teams the following year? South Carolina is the only program among these five to increase it's win total after that phenomonal turnaround:

Team First Season Second Season Third Season
Florida ('79-'81) 0-10-1 8-4 7-5
Hawaii ('98-'00) 0-12 9-4 3-9
South Carolina ('99-'01) 0-11 8-4 9-3
Miami Ohio ('09-'11) 1-11 10-4 4-8
Auburn ('12-'14) 3-9 12-2 8-5
UCF ('15-'17) 0-12 6-7 ???

UCF's players are unfazed by the struggles of other schools. During AAC media days in Rhode Island, Knighs players said they strongly believe their record will be even better in 2017.

“Being able to have him the second year, it’s going to make it that much better because now we know what to expect, we know what the plays are, we know we going the second time through, it obviously is going to be much better than what it was last year,” senior linebacker Shaquem Griffin said.

“We’ve stated in there very clearly that our goal this season is the conference championship," senior offensive lineman Aaron Evans said. "I’m sure all the other teams are but we’re fighting for that prize”

The media picked UCF to finish second behind USF in the AAC's eastern division. Popular opinion is that the Knights will continue their upward trend, even if history isn't on their side.
