For the second consecutive year, it took overtime to crown a state champion in girls lacrosse as Bishop Moore scored the final two goals in regulation and the game-winning goal in double overtime to defeat St. Thomas Aquinas 13-12 at Jupiter High School on Saturday.

The Hornets built a 7-3 first-half lead only to have the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders storm back in the second half and take a 12-10 lead with just over three minutes remaining in the game.

Freshman Kate Piscopo and senior Jeanne Kachris scored with under two minutes remaining before senior Abby Spalding was fouled with eight seconds left in regulation. Raiders goalie Morgan Lusk came up with a big save on Spalding's free position shot to force overtime.

In the overtime, both teams traded chances to win before Spalding was fouled once again, this time converting and giving the Hornets their first girls lacrosse state title in school history.

In the boys matchup, Orlando-area powerhouse Lake Highland Prep returned to the finals to take on St. Thomas Aquinas in a rematch of the 2015 boys finals.

The Highlanders fell behind 4-1 in the first quarter Saturday and were unable to catch the Raiders as St. Thomas Aquinas had three players with two or more goals on the night, knocking off LHP 12-7.

St. Thomas Aquinas wins its second-straight state title in its third-consecutive state finals appearance.
