In a game that showcased some of Brevard County's best talent, the fourth ranked Merritt Island Mustangs won their 12th consecutive game by defeating the struggling #5 Viera Hawks Thursday night at Viera Regional Park in Melbourne.

The game was shown live on Spectrum Sports.

Merritt Island took a 2-run lead going into the six inning and broke the game wide open by scoring six runs in the top of the seventh inning, highlighted by senior first baseman Logan Allen's two-run single.

Mustangs senior right-hander Jake Barrett threw a complete game 4-hitter and improves his record to 4-3 on the season.

Viera has now lost four out of their last six games and falls to 16-7 while Merritt Island improves to 20-5 on the season.

Viera plays Rockledge Friday night before they head to the Class 7A District 6 tournament next week. Merritt Island heads to the 6A District 13 tournament on a hot streak trying to keep their winning streak alive.
