Head coach Landy Faedo lead the 10th-ranked Alonso Ravens into Plant City to face his good friend Michael Fryrear and the Plant City Raiders. Faedo’s Ravens came away with a 6-1 victory in front of a raucous crowd.

Plant City’s pitcher Parker Messick pitched a three-up, three-down first inning but was undone by two fielding errors in the top of the second. Alonso took advantage and jumped out to early lead, scoring four times in the top of the inning.

With a 1-0 lead in the second, Ravens sophomore Andrew Lara connected for a two-run single doubling his season RBI total and making it 3-0 Alonso. Two batters later, junior Nick Gonzalez capped off the inning with an RBI groundout for a 4-0 lead.

Early Ravens run support lead to confident pitching from starter Marc DeGusipe who pitched five shutout innings, allowing just two hits.

Alonso’s University of Florida-commit Jordan Butler added two insurance runs in the fourth, blasting a double to center to score two runs providing the Ravens with a 6-0 lead.

Plant City’s J.J. Gonzalez plated the Raiders lone run on an RBI single in the sixth, scoring UCF-commit Dalton Wingo, who reached base after being hit by a pitch.

For Plant City (9-11), sophomore Cade Shissler was responsible for two of the Raiders three hits with a double and a single.

For Alonso (17-6), sophomore Andrew Lara had two singles and two RBI.

Up next for Plant City, the Raiders head to Spoto to face the Spartans Tuesday. Alonso will be active the same night, hosting the Jefferson Dragons.
