After giving up two runs on a throwing error in the second inning, the St. Cloud Bulldogs rallied in the sixth inning to beat cross-county rival Osceola 9-2 at the Mike Clark Softball Complex Friday night.

The Kowboys jumped out to the 2-0 lead after Bulldogs freshman catcher Ariana Manzanares attempted to pick off Audra Thompson at third base, sailing the throw into left field and past Briana Rodriguez, allowing Abby Kendrick to score from second base.

Osceola junior pitcher Layla Santiago held the Bulldogs at bay for five innings giving up just one run on six hits before freshman Shelby Jones came out to start the sixth inning.  St. Cloud would send 12 hitters to the plate, scoring eight runs on seven hits including doubles from Alyssa O’Donnell and Emily Callahan.

Seniors Cortney Wentzell and Emily Henderson led the Bulldogs offense with a combined five hits, three stolen bases and two RBI. Henderson was named Player of the Game after singling in the sixth to score the go-ahead run to go along with her three singles and two RBI on the night.

St. Cloud continued its dominance of the Kowboys, winning the seventh-consecutive matchup in the rivalry and completing the season sweep. The Bulldogs rebounded from the previous night’s loss to Melbourne and improved to 13-2 on the season with five of the next seven games on the road.

Osceola falls to 12-6 on the season and will host the Gateway Panthers before hosting the 2017 Kissimmee Klassic next weekend.
