Florida Gators defensive back Marcus Maye hasn’t played a down of football since breaking his arm in early November against South Carolina. But at UF’s Pro Day, the Holy Trinity High School grad showed the break is behind him.

“I haven’t been on the field for awhile now so I was just looking forward to this day,” said Maye. “I didn’t do anything at the combine, this was my Pro Day today.”

Tuesday was one last workout at home in front of family and friends who made the drive up from Melbourne.

“I’m from Melbourne, Florida. It’s not too far from here and my Mom and everybody came up to visit and support, which they always do. So I’m excited to see them here.”

Marcus put on a show for them, posting some solid numbers, clocking between a 4.4 and 4.5 in the 40, and a near 35-inch vertical jump. The measurables are strong, but as Coach Jim McElwain points out, it’s his versatility come game time that sticks out.

“I think when you talk about Marcus it’s his versatility, not only to be able to play center field but to come down and play in the box and still cover guys.”

Despite only playing in nine games his senior season, Maye finished the year ranked 4th on the team in tackles with 50 to his name. Couple his stats with his measurables and Maye may have pushed himself up the draft boards.

When asked where he has heard he’ll be drafted, Maye replied, “Middle rounds, early rounds, that’s up in the air still. I have no idea.”

Wherever it is, he’ll be ready.
