The ingredients for success at Armwood have long been a dominant defense and a powerful ground attack. The Hawks used that same formula to defeat St. Augustine 30-6 in the state semifinals and will make their fourth title game appearance in the last five years in next week's 6A Championship in Orlando.

Ohio State commit Brian Snead earned Player of the Game honors, leading the way with 115 rushing yards, including a 14-yd TD run in the fourth quarter that put the Hawks up 23-0.

Armwood scored on their first drive of the game when Devin Black spun away from pressure and found Wayne Dennis in the corner of the end zone. The 7-yd TD was Dennis' first of the season.

In the second quarter, the Hawks faced a 3rd & goal from the 22, when Black again connected under pressure on a TD pass to Oregon commit Warren Thompson and Armwood led 16-0 at the half.

After Snead's TD run, St. Augustine responded with their only scoring drive of the game. Star receiver Karim Brown caught his 17th TD of the season on a beautiful 60-yd deep pass from Austin Reed. Brown finished with 145 receiving yards, Reed threw for 254 yards and RB Dexter Brown (a Plant transfer) recorded 112 total yards.

But the momentum quickly returned to Armwood when Jerome Ford took the ensuing kickoff return 70 yards for the final TD.

Black finished the game 12-of-16 for 151 yards and rushed for 99 yards. Ezeriah Anderson led the Hawks WR corps with 67 receiving yards. And the defense, led by linebackers James Miller and Ricardo Watson, turned in another dynamic performance. The Hawks finished with nine tackles for loss, four sacks and three takeaways.

Armwood (14-0) and first-year head coach Evan Davis will face perennial power Miami Northwestern (11-2) in the 6A state title game, after the Bulls destroyed Naples 42-7 in the other 6A State Semifinal. St. Augustine (12-1) falls to a Hillsborough County team in the state semifinals for the second straight time, after losing to Jefferson in 2010 in their last Final Four appearance.
