Just under a year ago Shauna Rodgers celebrated winning a team state title with her Oviedo Lions.

“That was so fun,” said Rodgers. “I actually started crying and everyone was like, of course the freshman, but it was super cool and super exciting, I loved it.”

Rodgers was third on the team average wise last year, now as a sophomore she’s turned it up a notch. Shauna leads the entire district averaging 198 a game.

“She’s worked really hard on her game for the last year,” Oviedo bowling head coach Pat Costello said. “She’s like the kids who when you find something you love you just go out and keep doing it.”

“I feel great,” the sophomore said. “I don’t really pay attention to that stuff. I just bowl and do what I love to do, and it just comes to me, it’s amazing.”

As a team the Lions have been nothing short of amazing, they finished up the regular season undefeated for the fourth year in a row. And now that the postseason is here Rodgers has her sight set on some high goals.

“I would love to win an individual state title,” Rodgers said. “But for the team that would be so amazing, especially with all the freshmen who came in. I think it would phenomenal to win state again.”

Rodgers stiffest competition to win an individual title just might be her own teammates.

“She has a really good shot at it,” Costello said. “As well as Amelia, Priscilla, and Emma. I have four who are going to compete against each other for the singles title.”

And Shauna wouldn’t have it any other way.
