About the matchup: District title hopes hang in the balance as Orange City University heads to Seminole County to face the Lake Mary Rams.

The Titans can lock up their first district title in program history with a victory against the Rams. University has gone 8-2 on the field the last three seasons but has yet to participate in a playoff game. The Titans qualified for the playoffs in 2015 but had to forfeit all of their victories due to an ineligible player. University is led by one of the nation’s top running backs, Lorenzo Lingard. The Miami commit is rated as the second best running back in the country by 247 Sports. He’s rushed for 1,220 yards so far this season, including 167 and three touchdowns Tuesday night in a win against Seminole. Quarterback Cody Braden is a three-year starter with 33 career touchdown passes. Senior Jacob Moss is Braden’s top target – he has 22 receptions for 362 yards and four scores. Defensively, University’s top tackler is safety Micah Mickens with 48 stops and an interception. Mickens spent his first two seasons at Lake Mary. Ellias Jacobs has 35 tackles with four for loss, an interception and a forced fumble.

Lake Mary is entering its toughest stretch of the season with games against University, Seminole and Winter Park. The combined record of those teams is 17-3. The Rams need a win against the Titans to set up a district title matchup next week against the ‘Noles. Lake Mary is led by one of the area’s top dual threat quarterbacks in senior Brandon Brown. He has thrown for 1,168 yards and 10 touchdowns with 360 yards and five scores on the ground. Durable running back Calvin Davis is averaging 17 carries per game and has 781 yards with 6 touchdowns. Pedro Rodriguez (25 catches, 434 yards, 5 TD), Sam Whitty (20-242-3) and Cole Lee (14-253-2) are all capable targets for Brown. Despite a number of young players, Lake Mary’s defense has made tremendous improvements from 2016. The Rams, which start two seniors on defense, are allowing 18.9 points per game this season after giving up 41.9 points per game last year. Lake Mary’s top tackler is sophomore Brock Johnson. He has 67 stops and an interception return for a touchdown.

Three and out:

1. Lake Mary has won four of six meetings all-time against Orange City University and the closest margin of victory in the series is 14 points.

2. Lingard’s career numbers (3,997 yards) are great, but he has no chance of becoming Volusia County’s all-time leading rusher. That title is currently held by Warner Christian’s Marcus Dixon, who played from 2009-12 and finished with 6,107 yards.

3. This will be Lake Mary’s 28th appearance on Spectrum Sports. The Rams have a 13-14 record all-time.
