1. James Robinson, Wide Receiver, Lakeland High School

Top Landing Spots: Florida, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Clemson, Ole Miss, UCLA.

James Robinson recently changed up his weekend plans (January 21-22) from Alabama to Ohio State. It's clear the former Gator coach Urban Meyer is doing everything he can to steal this consensus four-star recruit from Jim McElwain. Clemson had been coming on strong and don't count out Ole Miss. UCLA and Oklahoma are included because they have both received official visits from Robinson. It would be a surprise if either the Sooners or Bruins landed this talented wideout from Polk County.

2. Zachary Carter, Defensive End, Hillsborough High School

Committed to Florida

Jim McElwain made a last minute stop to Hillsborough High School last week to check in on his prized four-star commit. Carter is seen by many scouts as a strong-side defensive end. New defensive coordinator Randy Shannon should be able to find room for someone who will do anything to help his team win. While playing for legendary Terriers coach Earl Garcia Carter has spent time as a defensive end and as a guard on the offensive line.

3. A.J. Davis, Running Back, Lakeland High School

FINAL THREE: North Carolina, Pittsburgh, Louisville

A.J. Davis might just be the most unassuming of these top recruits. He is has a real workman's attitude on the field and never misses beat.

He has the ability to ground-and-pound between the tackles or take a kick return all the way back for a touchdown with another gear.

Davis has visited the likes of Missouri, Louisville, Pittsburgh and North Carolina. The most interesting part of Davis' recruitment was when he received a rendering of himself in a Mizzou jersey from the Missouri coaching staff. That might be the closest Davis ever gets to wearing the black and gold as this appears to be a three-team race.

4. Daquon Green, Wide Receiver, Tampa Bay Tech High School

Committed to Florida

This signing of Green's National Letter of Intent is two years in the making. Green has been a Gator commit since July 2015. While Green is listed as a wide receiver, he could play on the defensive side of the ball in the Gator secondary if Jim McElwain wanted to make that decision. Otherwise, Green should be a solid receiver for whoever becomes the next man to try and fill the revolving door that is the quarterback position in Gainesville.

5. C.J. Cotman, Athlete, Clearwater Central Catholic High School

Committed to North Carolina

This was a four step process for the four-star athlete out of Clearwater. Step one: commit to Tennessee; Step two: de-commit from Tennessee (and therein denying yourself to be a "champion at life" - see Jones, Butch); Step three: consider hometown USF versus Big Ten, ACC, and SEC; Step four: Commit to North Carolina.

It's been a difficult road for the Tar Heels who had several offers out to Bay Area running backs for 2017, but kept coming up empty. Cotman fills a big need on several levels, including  the return game, and he could play on either side of the ball.
