Entering play last week Amugo Chukwunenye had nine total goals on the season. The West Shore striker pushed that total to 15 after two big performances for the Wildcats. Two goals against St. Cloud and then four when facing Holy Trinity, both in wins.

“It doesn’t surprise me, not with Amugo,” West Shore head coach Bob Robidoux said. “He’s an easy going kid who just loves being on the field. He works for it so he’s always around the ball so when he does put it in the back of the net it’s not very surprising, so it’s good stuff, I’m very happy for him.”

The four goals against Holy Trinity meant even more to Chukwunenye since it was a big cross-town game.

“I just felt something,” Chukwunenye said. “I don’t know if it was Holy Trinity or just the feel for the game. Because Holy Trinity is a rival for us, like an Edgewood, and I don’t know, it just felt so good scoring all those goals.”

With only one regular season match left Chukwunenye is putting the pressure on himself to keep finding the back of the net.

“I always tell myself, hey, you scored four goals but that doesn’t mean you stop,” said the senior striker. “Keep going, keep striving, try to get five the next time, who said you can’t score six, keep striving to do more.”

More is exactly what Chukwunenye has done this season, he missed all of last year with a knee injury. Now back and healthy the senior is ready to go out with a bang.

“This year I want to go to states, I’ve never been to states so that’s my goal. But if we don't make states it’s been a fun year. I’m confident we’re going to make regionals, but after that we have to just keep playing hard.”
