Wekiva moved into the driver seat's of the 9A District 3 race with their second convincing win of the season over Evans, cruising past the Trojans for a 71-52 victory.

The Mustangs' front court combination of DePaul commit Paul Reed and Jeremy Johnson were too much for Evans to handle.  Reed recorded a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds while Johnson led all scorers with 23 points, over 14 points higher than his season average.

Evans trailed after the first quarter by just a point, but the Mustangs built on their lead through the rest of the district win.  The Trojans were led by Kimani Binder (17 points) and Jordan Collins (14 points).

Wekiva (12-4) moves to 3-1 in the district, and with two wins over Evans (10-5, 2-2), their next big district showdown comes on January 19th at West Orange.  First, Wekiva faces Dr. Phillips on Friday.  Evans will look to rebound tomorrow at Olympia.

In the first game of the doubleheader played at Wekiva, Apopka emerged with their first district victory of the season, in a 63-58 win over a short-handed West Orange squad that was without starters K.J. Simon and Jagger Kovacs.

For Apopka, Jai Clark put on an impressive show from long range, making 5-of-6 3-point field goals, in just his fourth game of the season after recovering from knee surgery.  Clark and Terence McClain led the Blue Darters with 17 points apiece.

West Orange had four players finish in double figures, headlined by Jaylin Thomas' 14 points.

Apopka (12-4, 1-3) will look to continue their seven-game winning streak Saturday vs. Auburndale, while West Orange (11-6, 2-2) will look to bounce back in a Jacksonsville tournament on the same day.
