When you're the big man on campus there is no reason to think you will ever fall.

College is a wake-up call for the team captains, 1,000 yard rushers, and all-state honorees.

Former Tarpon Springs tight end Mitchell Wilcox knows that feelinh all too well.

Wilcox was one of the true stadnout players for the Spongers football team - leading to a 3-star rating by most recruiting sites.

Mitchell also helped lead the boys basketball squad to the program's first state seminfal appearance since 1943.

Wilcox chose to play football in college and selected USF over a handful of offers. the 6-foot-4 pass catcher was off to Tampa to try and help restore order with Willie Taggart. The Bulls were coming off a 4-8 season in 2014, but Taggart told Wilcox that he would be redshirted his freshman season. No playing games. No contributing to USF.

"When we recruited (Mitchell) we saw that competitiveness in him," said Taggart. "He wants to win, never accepts losing, and will try to beat you even if it's a water drinking contest. He wants to do things right and he wants to be good."

"I think looking back, redshirting was the best decision," said Wilcox. "I feel like I am finally where I need to be and can say that I am ready to get out there and help this team."

Wilcox joins fellow tight end, redshirt sophomore Elkanah "Kano" Dixon in hopes of being a strong two-man group that can catch, block, and score.

"I have no doubt that we will not miss a beat," said the former Sponger. "We are ready to win. I am ready to win."

In just two short seasons, the former star in high school is hoping to take that jump into the college realm, while also helping the Bulls make history by possibly winning their first conference title.
