Spruce Creeks stout defense keeps Lake Brantley out of reach, 17-7
Andy Price's defensive efforts over the summer paid dividends Friday night against Lake Brantley in the Kickoff Classic, 17-7.
The Hawks forced four turnovers and only allowed Brantley to produce 221 yards of total offense--- just 54 in the first half.
Trevor Fournier hit a 43-yard field goal late in the first quarter to put the Hawks on the board.
The next Patriots series was broken up early when Todd Powers forced and recovered a loose ball--ultimately giving his team the ball back and setting up the first touchdown for Spruce Creek.
Junior QB Kyle Minckler connected with sophomore Hayden Flood for a 27-yard score in the second quarter.
Minckler would drive in another touchdown on the ground before the break making it, 17-0.
The Patriots didn't find an offensive rhythm until Marcus Dequattro stepped in for Nathan Guzman in the second half.
Brantley's lone score was walked in by Trace Christian at the 11:07 mark in the fourth quarter.
Next week Spruce Creek will open up their regular season at Seabreeze while Lake Brantley will host Boone.
