It was nothing but smiles in Historic Dodgertown for the West Orange Warriors, as their softball team claimed their second ever state title in school history and first since 1994 thanks to the solid pitching of Lauren Mathis.

"To be honest I didn’t really know it was a strike for at least two seconds in my mind," said Mathis. "I was like, woah, then it just all hit me at once, I threw my glove in the air, and I just ran over to our centerfielder who’s one of our seniors."

Lauren Mathis was every bit of the word dominant at the state softball tournament. Over the course of two games the University of Georgia commit in 13 innings struck out 26, walked none, gave up only 5 hits and didn’t allow an earned run.

“Lauren Mathis, that’s her, she’s been doing that all year,” said West Orange head coach Todd LaNeave. “She gets the ball out there and she’s been incredible, and then she gets the run support like you’ve seen.”

In the championship game when the Warriors bats were slow to get going Lauren carried a perfect game into the top of the 5th. In total she fanned 15 Alonso batters.
