At Myakka River State Park you'll find the original Florida canopy walk. Besides the great birding trail they have at Myakka, the canopy walk is one of the biggest draws for visitors to the park It was the first of it's kind in North America before the plethora of ziplines and canopy walks starting poppoing up at nature attractions everywhere.

Finished in June of 2000, the canopy walk includes a suspension bridge 25 feet above ground level that stretches through the treetops giving visitors and researchers a wonderful vantage point to view wildlife just beneath the forest canopy. It also has a observation tower that reaches 76 feet high giving an amazing bird's eye view of the entire park. There's even a coin-operated high powered telescope to view the beautiful Florida landscape in case you forgot your binoculars.

Crossing the bridge and climbing the tower is a fun activity for all ages, however children must be accompanied by an adult. Have some fun at the canopy walk and enjoy the rest of the great activities the park has to offer. From tours on the world's largest airboats to camping or fishing in the lake and river there are activities to please one and all.

The park is open everyday of the year from 8 a.m. to sunset. Entrance fees are $4 for individuals in cars or $6 per vehicle up to 8 people.

Myakka River Sate Park is located at 13208 State Road 72 in Sarasota.
