Ocoee High School’s Victoria Jefferson put her name in the record books after benching 250 pounds in the bench press during the 2016 2A Girls State Weightlifting Championships.

“For me it was actually more or less a redemption. When you work hard and you put in work - in the end it all worked out for my good and I am very, very appreciative of that,” said Jefferson after taking 1st in the 199-lb weight class.

250 on the bench press and 185 on the clean and jerk gave Victoria a total of 435 pounds. While it is a staggering number, Victoria finished just 5 pounds shy of tying the state record for total weight as well.

“I planned to get a 440 today. Unfortunately I missed my last clean and jerk but in the end I still came out on top. 435. So just plan on coming again next year and working hard.”

The fact that Jefferson already wants to get back to work comes as no surprise to her weightlifting coach Jason Boltus.

“She is extremely self-motivated, passionate about what she does and I just monitor her,” said Boltus. “She almost sometimes tells me what to do.”

The hours spent training paying off as Victoria earned the first state championship in Ocoee Knights history.
