Lake Highland Prep entered as the favorites and went out as Champions –yet again--Thursday night, defeating Brooks-DeBartolo to repeat as the 4A State champs, 72-30.

After a sluggish start the Highlanders kicked it into gear closing out the first quarter on a 13-2 run.

“I think the girls just had to get comfortable and realize –that they [Brooks-DeBartolo] had some nice size but we can defend them on this end and then exploit them on the other end,” LHP coach Al Honor said.

And that’s exactly what ensued, turning the jets on and ending the first half with a hefty 27-point lead.

The Phoenix, in their first state finals appearance, tried to hang but had no answer to knock down shots—as the Highlanders held their leading scorer Don’Niya Brooks to just eight all night.

Lake Highland had five scoring from beyond the arc—tying a season high 11 three’s.

“We knew with their size they couldn’t cover our guard play—which we don’t have a true post just have wings and everyone can shoot the basketball,” Honor added.

Alabama signee Jordan Lewis led the attack snagging her career first triple-double, finishing with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Alexis Allen had a team high 9 points while Courtney Hall finished with 10 rebounds for Brooks-DeBartolo in the team’s first ever-state finals appearance
