Sophomore Nayquan Wright scored two touchdowns in the second half and Miami Carol City defeated Lakeland Lake Gibson 14-6 on Saturday for the Florida Class 6A football championship.

The Chiefs (11-3) held previously undefeated Lake Gibson to 89 total yards and five first downs.

Wright dove over from the 1-yard line for the game's first score with 5:37 left in the third quarter. It was set up by his 51-yard run on the preceding play. His second touchdown run put Carol City up 14-0 on the second play of the fourth quarter.

Lake Gibson (13-1) scored on Kevaris Thomas' 20-yard pass to Mytrevious Link with six minutes remaining after the Braves recovered a fumble on the Carol City 18.

It was Carol City's first 6A state championship since 2003 when 6A was the largest of Florida's classifications.
