The Bishop Moore Hornets won their second consecutive state title and fourth in the last five years, defeating Ponte Vedra in straight sets Saturday afternoon at West Port High School  in the 6A state finals. The Hornets dominated the match from the opening serve starting with a 13-1 run behind the play of senior middle blocker Morgan Davis and tough serving from junior setter Marlie Monserez.

The second set was all Bishop Moore as well as junior outside hitter Shannon Crenshaw (Washington commit) and Davis continued to put down ball after ball. Crenshaw finished the night with a game-high 15 kills, Monserez led the way with 5 aces to go along with 4 kills.

Ponte Vedra (21-10) took their only lead early in the third set, but Bishop Moore regained the lead behind the play of Davis who was named the player of the game with 13 kills and 3 blocks.

Bishop Moore finishes the season with a 29-1 record, winning the sixth state title in school history.

Earlier in the day in the 9A title game, the Oviedo Lions were swept by the Boca Raton Bobcats in straight sets, 3-0. Early unforced errors in the first set hampered the young Lions leading to the 25-16 defeat.

Oviedo led early in the second set, but Bobcats senior Christine Jarman (Alabama signee) led the way with 17 kills to give Boca Raton the 2-0 lead. The second set was marred by multiple questionable calls that did not go the Lions way, forcing Oviedo to play down two games to none.

Jarman and sophomore Shiloh O’Leath (10 kills) powered the Bobcats to a 25-22 victory in the third and final set, giving Boca Raton (24-2) their second state title in school history.

Oviedo finishes the season 26-4 and graduates lone senior Sydney Vach, returning nearly every starter for a potential run at next years title.
