For the second straight time on BHSN, Lake Highland Prep fell behind two games to none but the Highlanders were unable to come out victorious in the 5A state title match against Westminster Christian, falling 3-2.

The Warriors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match, led by senior outside hitter and USF commit Nikkia Benitez’s 14 kills. Benitez would finish the night with 21 kills.

The Highlanders awoke in the third set, using superb passing to get the offense of freshman Lauren Gips (14 kills) and sophomore Kelly Markowski (14 kills) going to tie the match at two.

After Lake Highland jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the fifth and final set, Westminster Christian junior Prissy Hernandez put the Warriors on her back and propelled them to their second state title in school history, knocking off the Highlanders 15-12. Hernandez led Westminster Christian with 26 kills and 25 digs on the night.

Lake Highland finishes the season 20-9 and takes home their second runner-up trophy in the last four years. Westminster Christian finishes 27-4 and takes home their second state title in school history.
