About the matchup: A postseason berth is on the line as resurgent programs Jones and Lake Highland go head-to-head in the BHSN Game of the Week.

After guiding a turnaround at Oak Ridge from 2009-14, Elijah Williams is experiencing a fantastic first year at Jones. Regardless of Friday’s result, the Tigers will finish above .500 for the first time since 2012. Jones is averaging 44.9 points per game with one of the most explosive offenses in Central Florida. The Tigers have put up 40 or more points in seven of their eight games. Quarterback Quadry Jones has thrown for 1,588 yards and 20 touchdowns with Jean Elysee (19 rec, 453 yd, 6 TD) and Vincent Thomas (31 rec, 583 yd, 9 TD) as his primary targets. Aaron Thompson (50 car, 566 yd, 10 TD) and Rockenson Sajous (53 car, 272 yd, 5 TD) have split carries in the backfield. A good sized offensive line is anchored by FIU commit Calvin Francis, a three-star recruit. The biggest prospect in the game is Tigers junior defensive lineman Stacy Kirby, who already has offers from Florida, Florida State, Miami and Ohio State. The leading tackler for the Tigers is junior linebacker Richard Calloway.

Lake Highland is attempting to reach the postseason for the first time since 2010. The Highlanders, playoff regulars from the mid-1990’s to mid-2000’s, are on the rise after a 25-game losing streak from 2012-14. Their up-tempo, no-huddle offense is putting up 39.7 points per game with junior Elijah Lucas at the controls. Lucas, in his second year as the starter, has accounted for 16 touchdowns (eight rushing, eight passing). Devyn Castor, who rushed for 235 yards in this game last year, has 561 yards and seven TDs on the ground this season. E.J. Jimenez (20 rec, 394 yd, 3 TD) and Britton Allen (15 rec, 405 yd, 3 TD) are the main receiving threats for the Highlanders. 6-foot-5, 350-pound senior left tackle Christopher James is one of the area’s biggest and best offensive lineman. Defensively, Harrison Greenhill has 96 tackles, 41 of them for loss. Greenhill is generating interest from the service academies.

Three and out:

1. Jones has won five of the last six meetings between the schools, including a 24-21 victory last season.

2. The Tigers tied with Apopka for the West Metro Conference championship. It’s believed to be the first time Jones has ever won a Metro title in football.

3. Both programs were last on BHSN in 2011 against the same opponent, Cocoa.
