Viera High School’s first ever team championship crown was earned in stride last weekend with triumphing efforts by senior forward Hope Leonard.

Leonard led the offensive attack scoring two goals and adding an assist as the Hawks shut out Navarre, then Pembroke Pines to win it all in class 4A.

“I mean it was amazing. My entire team as a unit just played so well on Saturday, I mean the score showed it,” said Leonard.

“We were on that day and take nothing away from that other team—that other team is really good we just got our opportunities and we finished them.”

Viera High school was the only public school to win a girls state soccer title this year—by doing so it keeps the Brevard County title streak alive and set at three consecutive years, as Melbourne won the two previous years.

“To think about that we just pulled kids from our area and we built something that’s very special and I’m never going to forget this team, I mean I love those girls,” Leonard added.

The Lady Hawks are currently looking for sponsors to help pay the cost of state championship rings if you would like to help please contact Courtney Lundy at 321-632-1770.
