Five short months after winning their first ever winter state soccer title the Orangewood Christian Rams ventured away from the norm. Instead of their usual summer trip to  North Carolina for team camp the squad traveled to El Salvador for a mission and service trip.

"The main purpose of it was to continue to do team building in a different setting," Rams head coach Jeff Johnson said. "There was some good work going on in El Salvador, that we could join in mainly with a poor community."

The decision to go on the trip was a welcome one from the players.

"I was excited, I thought it was going to be a really interesting experience for us to share together," junior goalkeeper Chase Honerbrink recalled. "Going out of the country is always fun with a bunch of guys you’re great friends with it’s awesome."

For 8 days with the help from assistant coach Tim Wasisanen’s organization People of Purpose  the Rams served the El Salvador community from ministering with a local church to visiting an orphanage. But the kids of the area weren’t the only one’s left with a positive impact.

"With the stuff they have they seemed more appreciative," junior midfielder AJ Moulton said. "They seem to take care of the things they have, and just the way they are always smiling and happy and joyful."
