For the second straight year a UCF running back heard his name called in the NFL Draft as Storm Johnson was picked up by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the seventh round (222nd Overall).

Johnson became the second Knight to be selected this year, and will join a very familiar face in the NFL. His quarterback at UCF, Blake Bortles, was drafted third overall by the Jaguars on Thursday.

This is the first time in UCF history that two Knights have been selected by one team in the same NFL Draft.

The Black and Gold has had at least one player taken in the NFL Draft every year dating back to the 2006 draft. Johnson serves as the 33rd Knight taken since Ted Wilson was the first UCF player tagged in the draft in 1987. And for UCF head coach George O’Leary who completed his 10th year with the program in 2013, he has witnessed 14 of his Knights be selected in the NFL Draft.

Johnson opened his collegiate career at the University of Miami before transferring to the Knights. He was forced to sit out the 2011 campaign when he dazzled on the scout team all year long. In 2012, the Loganville, Ga., native ran behind eventual Oakland Raiders sixth round pick Latavius Murray. But Johnson still produced 507 rushing yards and four touchdowns as UCF went 10-4 and won the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl.

As a junior in 2013, Johnson broke out. He eventually collected five 100-yard rushing games highlighted by 124 yards and three touchdowns in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl win over Baylor. Johnson completed the season with 1,139 yards and 14 touchdowns, while accumulating 260 receiving yards with three scores.

Johnson, Bortles and the Jaguars open up their preseason schedule at home vs. Tampa Bay Aug. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
