Nick Swan got the win for Orangewood Christian, improving to 6-1 on the season. He allowed two runs over five innings strucking out five, walking none and surrendering 6 hits.


Orangewood Christian was sparked by Chad Wagner and Michael Gizzi, who teamed up for three hits and three RBIs.


Chris Hopkins was charged with the loss. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed two runs.


The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Nick Fortes doubled to ignite DeLand's offense, before Cory Crow singled, plating courtesy runner Ben Rowdon.


The Rams took the lead in the second, when they scored two runs on a single by Vinny Catanza.


Orangewood Christian pushed across two runs in both the third and fifth innings. In the third, Orangewood Christian scored on an error, bringing home Forrest Wall.


One run in the bottom of the fourth helped DeLand close its deficit to 4-2. A groundout by Mason Moyer fueled the Bulldogs comeback. Orangewood Christian stopped the rally after Nick Swan got Shelton Schimming to strike out.


Orangewood Christian improves to 18-7 on the season and begins their district playoffs next week as the number one seed in Class 3A district 6.

DeLand falls to 14-9 on the year and will meet the number seven seed Lyman Greyhounds on Monday in the Class 8A district 2 playoffs.
