Seventeen Kemp’s ridley sea turtles returned to the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday with the help of members from SeaWorld Orlando’s rescue team.

The endangered turtles were released at Canaveral National Seashore in Titusville.

Most of the turtles were rescued from waters off the New England coast in November. In December, more than 40 of the cold-stunned turtles arrived at Tampa International Airport and were sent to various facilities in Florida for treatment.

The turtles that arrived at SeaWorld Orlando were treated for pneumonia, corneal ulcers and malnutrition. After three months of care, the turtles were cleared for release.

Two green turtles were also returned to the ocean Wednesday morning.

More than 2,000 sea turtles have been rescued by the SeaWorld Orlando team since 1980.
