IRMA: School, college reopening dates

Before Irma struck the Sunshine State, Florida Gov. Rick Scott ordered all K-12 public schools, state colleges and state universities to close, but now that the storm has left the area, school districts are working with officials and power companies to determine when to reopen.

Orange County Public Schools will resume classes on Monday, Sept. 18. School and district offices reopened Friday.

Osceola County schools will reopen for classes Monday, Sept. 18.

Seminole County Public Schools will resume classes Monday, Sept. 18. The students will have to make up four of the six days missed because of Hurricane Irma. The makeup days will be Monday, Oct. 16, Tuesday Oct. 17, Dec. 22 and March 16, 2018.

Flagler Schools Superintendent James Tager announced that all schools within Flagler County will reopen Monday, Sept. 18.

Flagler Schools is requesting people donate unused non-perishable hurricane supplies to the Flagler county food pantries. All Flagler schools will accept non-perishable food donations next week. Donations can be left at the front desk, or students can bring them in.

Brevard Public Schools says its schools will reopen on Monday.

Volusia County Schools will reopen Monday.

Marion County Public Schools will resume classes on Monday, Sept. 18.

Lake County Schools are ready to reopen next week. Employees should report to work Monday, Sept. 18, and students will return to school Tuesday, Sept. 19. Bus drivers are asked to return Tuesday with students.

And Sumter County School District will keep schools closed through the end of the week. Classes will return on Monday.

Colleges and universities

The University of Central Florida will remain closed through Wednesday, Sept. 13, and classes will resume on Monday, Sept. 18.

Valencia College will resume normal operations Friday, Sept. 15. All faculty, staff and students should plan to follow their normal schedules.

Seminole State College will remain closed through Friday and students should report for class on Monday. 

Classes will resume Thursday at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach.

Full Sail University will remain closed through the weekend and hopes to reopen Monday. It's contingent on when power is full restored.

Rollins College says the college will reopen Thursday, when students and staff are asked to report. Crimmer School classes should resume Saturday, while CLA and Holt classes will resume Monday. Students with any questions or concerns should call 407-646-2345. 

Stetson University DeLand undergraduate classes at the DeLand campus are set to resume Monday, Sept. 18. UThe school is encouraging people to check its Facebook page for the latest information, or call 386-822-8815.

Bethune-Cookman University is still without power, there are electrical lines down on campus and there is damage to some buildings. Check the B-CU website for updates.

Nova Southeastern University plans to have all campuses in Florida and Puerto Rico open on Monday, Sept. 18. go to the Nova website for updates.

Florida Technical College resumed classes at the DeLand, Kissimmeee and Orlando classes Wednesday. The school says to check the FTC website for updates.

Keiser University has reopened all of its campuses and resumed classes.

Daytona State College will reopen and resume classes online and on all campuses on Monday, Sept. 18. For further updates, call the DSC helpline at 386-506-4357.

Lake-Sumter State College says classes resumed normal schedules on Friday, Sept. 15. 

Eastern Florida State College will reopen its campuses on Monday to allow time for recovery operations and safe travel back to Brevard County.

Classes resumed at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne Friday.

In addition public schools, colleges and universities, area theme parks and attractions have also announced closures.
