Every spring, as the humidity returns, so does the gold and green in Zellwood.

"People come from all over to get our sweet corn," said Haley Veilleux with Long and Scott Farms.

Haley Veilleux is a third generation farmer.

"For a long time, I wanted to be a lawyer," she said.

Like her father Hank Scott, Jr., and her grandfather Hank Scott, Sr., Haley's at work at this 1,200-acre vegetable farm that doesn't wait to harvest until the fall.

"We actually have two seasons in Florida," she said.

This May, Haley is proud to show-off her family's bounty.

"We get it right out of the field; we eat it raw," Haley said.

"The only reason I heat it up is to melt the butter."

Each spring, the farm market re-opens with the fresh produce, like sweet onions and cucumbers grown right in the fields out back.  Plus, the farm cafe opens at nine for an early lunch with something new.

"Dill pickle soup," Haley said. "It has a kick to it."

But the most popular is still the corn chowder.

Long and Scott Farms’ homemade are made with the strawberries harvested from the fields at this time of year.

New next to the GNC Truck, an herb garden, where Haley hopes you'll take part of the farm home with you.

"I just want people to come out with their families and enjoy the outdoors," Haley said. "And hopefully want to come back again."

Know before you go:

Keep in mind, the farm is closed to visitors on Sunday and Monday. Fresh sweet corn is expected to be in season through early June.

Long and Scott Farms is located in Zellwood, not too far away from Mt. Dora and Apopka.
